Independent game studio

Woolly Hoody

Developer and publisher of Starship CEO.

A small studio making games you settle into: systems worth learning, built out of parts that behave the same way every time, and a screen you can read at a glance. One game at a time, in the open, with the dev blog running while it is built.

Starship CEO

Build a starship room by room and crew it with people who have jobs to do and needs to meet. Cut asteroids open with hull-mounted lasers, refine the rock into product, balance power against draw, and keep everyone fed and breathing on the way to the next system.

The site has the full pitch, the changelog and a dev blog that goes into how the thing is put together.

The studio

Woolly Hoody is a one-person studio. It writes the code, draws the art, presses the buttons and answers the mail, which is why replies are not instant and why the games come out one at a time.

It develops and publishes its own work. There is no publisher above it and nothing being shipped on somebody else's schedule.

How we build

The engine is kept generic and the game plugs into it: a small vocabulary of parts in code, and everything a player meets composed out of them as data.

Development runs in public. The dev blog explains the machinery while it is still being built, and the changelog records every version as it goes out.
